Kathmandu, May 8: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu, in collaboration with the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh, hosted a networking dinner at the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel on Thursday evening in honour of prominent Nepali businesspersons and Bangladeshi exhibitors participating in the South Asia Trade Fair 2026.

The event brought together leading Nepali business leaders, representatives from major chamber bodies including the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), Nepal Foreign Trade Association (NFTA), entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, diplomats, and Bangladeshi business delegates.

According to the Embassy, a total of 24 Bangladeshi enterprises are participating in the trade fair, showcasing Bangladesh’s export-oriented industries such as ready-made garments, handicrafts, jute and jute products, among others.

The programme began with an introductory session and remarks from prominent Nepali business representatives. Addressing the gathering, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md. Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and business connectivity between Nepal and Bangladesh.

The Ambassador said Bangladesh has emerged as one of Asia’s competitive manufacturing and export hubs, particularly in sectors including ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, leather goods, textiles, and jute products. He also emphasized the untapped potential for enhancing Nepal–Bangladesh economic cooperation in agro-processing, energy, tourism, information technology, frozen fish, and seafood trade.

He noted that improved regional connectivity and trade facilitation measures, including the use of land ports such as Banglabandha, are helping create smoother trade flows and new business opportunities for entrepreneurs from both countries. Ambassador Rahman also expressed the Embassy’s readiness to extend necessary support to business communities in Nepal and Bangladesh.

An interactive business networking session followed the formal remarks, providing a platform for entrepreneurs and stakeholders from both nations to discuss trade expansion, investment partnerships, and regional economic cooperation.

The evening concluded with a dinner and networking session aimed at encouraging dialogue, collaboration, and long-term partnerships among participating business communities.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Embassy also organized a business-to-business (B2B) meeting at the Embassy premises between renowned Nepali entrepreneurs and representatives of Bangladeshi companies participating in the trade fair. The meeting focused on strengthening networking, business engagement, and exploring new opportunities for bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Nepal and Bangladesh
